Love Your Bump
Trying to give up smoking is difficult, even if you know it is the right thing for your baby. Help is available.
Get guidance and support from trusted sources, like our stop smoking advisors. Our experienced advisors provide a friendly, confidential service to help pregnant smokers and their families stop smoking.
- You are three times more likely to quit smoking with support from a stop smoking service than on your own.
- The moment you stop smoking, both you and your baby will start to feel the benefits and your journey starts here.
Benefits of quitting for you and your baby
- You will generally feel more well, including better skin, teeth and hair.
- You are more likely to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.
- You reduce the risk of stillbirth and the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as 'cot death'.
- Your baby is less likely to have problems like asthma, lung development issues, learning difficulties or diabetes.
- You will save money. The average smoker saves around £150 a month or more – nearly £2,000 a year.

Partners or other family members stopping smoking
Secondhand (passive) smoke is also harmful for you and your baby both before and after birth.
Even if partners or family members go outside to smoke, toxins remain on clothing for hours.
You may also find it more difficult to stop if someone around you smokes.
If your family members would like to support you by stopping smoking, they can access help too.
